About
I am the only child of a single mother, who started her own business while I was growing in her belly. Ulanda’s Full Service Salon, was my second home and where I realize I wanted to become an entrepreneur. From a young age, I was my mother’s shadow from when she turned on the open sign till the last client walked out of the door. I was inspired by how she could run a business completely on her own and still take care of me. She became my idol. I wanted to follow in her footsteps so one day I could pay her back for all she has done and that’s why I am here today.
I achieved my Associate Degree at Southwestern Illinois College and I am attending University of Missouri – St. Louis to receive my Bachelor’s in Business Administration and after that I planned to pursue my Master’s. I also volunteer for the Scott Credit Union Youth Council that helps with marketing new ideas to teens and young adults. An internship with a startup company or an entrepreneur mentor to me would be the perfect way to learn the ins and outs of being a business owner. It is an opportunity to see how much hard work and determination it takes to be a successful business. The ability to see a simple idea on paper transform into a fully operating company is a once in a lifetime opportunity that one will never forget.
There are billionaires who were once called crazy for having the dream of one day owning their own business. I just recently heard a quote from Steve Jobs, he said “Those who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.” This means that everyone in the world is not made to be an entrepreneur. It requires tough skin, drive, and perseverance. My meaning for the word “crazy” is different than the traditional definition. People like Steve Jobs are viewed as crazy because they are unique. Cut from a different cloth, they viewed the world from a special vantage point that gives them the ability to be a leader and make the impossible happen and I believe I am the same kind of person.
My aspiration in life is to be a very successful woman that my family would be proud of. The elders in my family have sacrificed so much for the younger generations and I want to be able to help them retire early. I was always raised to be a good, honest person at heart and as long as you have faith, anything is possible.
