Goals and interests

Career goal

I am building my career in Criminal Justice because, for the past 28 years, I have thrived working with teams. Additionally, my experience in the Security industry has given me a keen eye for observation and excellent skills both of which will be valuable as a Security Specialist I can best utilize my skills and I am excited to use my experience to help me create a more detailed career plan. I am confident that I can learn quickly and make a positive impact.

Graduate school interests

I am interested in earning my Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice with a concentration in Psychology because of the interdisciplinary nature of the program. I believe that taking core courses with a range of interrelated criminal justice courses, especially in psychology will provide me with the foundation I need to pursue my career in Law enforcement. I believe that the Department of Homeland Security is the agency to best helps me achieve my goal of becoming a special agent/security specialist so I stand to contribute a good deal to my cohort.
Respectfully,
Myrlene Distler

Outside the classroom

Running is what shapes me into the person I am. I love running to stay physically fit and stay in shape. For the last 20 years, I have running a few 5K races. Running is my great passion because of all the hard work and pain that goes into training, and ends in a personal record. These strategies prepared me for many possible situations, which is how I approach the race as a runner.
