About

Hi! My name is Nathaniel Lasher, I'm am a freshman here at the University at Buffalo and I am looking forward to furthering my education. I've been exploring possible career paths by trying out different positions in the community here (mainly Teaching-Assistant positions for now). For as long as I can remember I’ve been taking things apart to understand how they work, everything from flashlights, clocks, and radios to eventually computers as I’ve gotten older. Now, I'm just starting out in college and truly beginning to understand where my interests lie and expand upon them. I'm passionate in computer science and I will go out of my way to educate and help others who want to learn more. I've already shown to have a deeper understanding than most in my class, but I'm still learning from others of course.

Goals and interests

Career goal

Education in my field. Maybe not in the traditional sense, as I would like to design equipment with a team and then teach others how to integrate and utilize the technology properly. Also not one-hundred percent opposed to becoming a computer science teacher along the way either.

Graduate school interests

I'm currently looking into grad school for my major, what it entails and the benefits. Right now I plan on working towards a Master's degree

Outside the classroom

-Tinkering with small electrical circuits, so far I've made a working metal detector from scratch (a pre-made PCB being the only exception), various neat little LED circuits, a shake-recharge flashlight, and some modifications to a few RC hobby vehicles' circuits.

-My love of recycling old computer equipment stems from the above. I've graduated to taking fans and other useful components out of old junkyard-worthy computers and reusing the parts to make useful cooling arrays, small art pieces, modifications to adapters for equipment/computers/devices and using the raw cable to fuel my smaller projects. Nothing, that’s not in use of course, stays together for long before the next endeavor.

-Recently I've been getting into 3D printing, haven't had an outlet for it until about a month ago, still pretty new to it. I've only made a few basic desk decorations and brackets and racks for small things around my room

-Racing! whether on foot, with an RC car, or competitively on a bike I've done it. BMX is a huge part of my life (and bikes in general) for about 12-13 years now
