About
My name is Nicholas Genovese. I am 23 years old and am currently an undergraduate student at SUNY Cortland. I come from a humble, lower-middle class family in upstate New York, mainly focused around the city of Rome. For much of my life, studying history has been a passion of mine, even during much of my childhood, where I would spend my time absorbing historical knowledge through various forms of content. Throughout my academic life, I have always strived to apply myself to the best of my abilities, without regard as to any obstacles or struggles that I may come across. I have also been fortunate enough to have a family which inspires and strives me to exceed in my higher education and pushes me to succeed. Applying myself to the study of history, the knowledge it provides, and the hope of educating others on historiography and the importance of history is my passion. As mentioned, I have always, and will continue to, strive towards success and excellence in my academic, professional, and personal life, and I believe the lessons I have learned throughout my higher education thus far have only improved my potential for success in the field of historical study and education.

During my tenure at Mohawk Valley Community College, I achieved recognition on the Dean's List due to my academic status of a 3.5 GPA in the 2018-2019 Academic Year.

At SUNY Cortland, I attained academic recognition on the President's List in the Fall 2022 Semester due to my outstanding academic performance in the Spring 2022 Semester, having obtained a 3.9 GPA.

As of April 21st, 2023, I achieved membership into the Nu Omicron Chapter of Phi Alpha Theta, the National Honor Society of History. I was gifted this esteemed membership due to earning a 3.71 GPA and 3.79 GPA in the Fall 2022 and Spring 2023 Semesters.
Goals and interests
- Career goal
My intended career path upon achieving my Doctorate Degree is to teach at the college academic level. I prefer the college level over other institutions of education because I personally believe that universities allow for more thought-provoking and encouraging educational environments than other institutions.
- Graduate school interests
I intend to move to a graduate level of education outside of New York State; at this moment, my preferences have me interested in Graduate Schools in Virginia.
- Outside the classroom
I enjoy reading, mainly historical works or some works of fiction. A recent notable example is "Ordinary Men", a book documenting German Police Battalion 101, which I read during my most recent semester at SUNY Cortland in my Holocaust class. Another personal favorite of mine is the autobiography "Rogue Warrior" by Richard Marcinko, the founder of SEAL Team Six, the U.S. Navy's Counter-Terrorist special forces unit.
I also enjoy physical exercise, enjoying various types of music, and films/dramas.
