Nicole Gilbert

I loved to create stories for others to see, hear and feel. My goal is to establish a strong educational foundation as a part of pursuing filmmaking as a career. I will learn about the state-of-the-art filmmaking resources and leverage the faculty as mentors to establish a robust and diverse screenwriting portfolio. I would use the tools and the knowledge to hone my unique voice and create the dark, absurd, Black and Queer stories that I’ve always wanted brought to life.

My mission is to dedicate my career to uplifting marginalized voices through my writing. I have spent my life vying for more positive representation for queer people and people of color in media–primarily through cinema–and I hope to turn that desire into a reality. I hope to create stories where these communities are portrayed in an engaging, three-dimensional and dignified way. I hope to help change the landscape of cinema so that others won’t have to scrounge for decent representation the way that I had growing up.
