About

I am currently working on my Masters Degree at Marquette University! I am studying clinical mental health and I am very passionate about the field of psychology and working with people. I am currently completing my internship at Rogers Behavioral Health and I work with adolescents that struggle with dual diagnosis - suffering from both substance abuse and mental health disorders. I interact with the patients on the unit and lead therapeutic groups! This Fall, I will be finishing up my last year and I am looking forward to applying to PhD. programs across Mid-Western States. I would like to become a licensed Psychologist and be able to provide services to children and adolescents who identify in the African American population. I am thriving to become as educated as I can be to better serve this community of people whom I can identify with. I would like to be a person that helps break the stigma and barriers that are associated with mental illness and substance abuse.I am excited to see what the future holds for me and what opportunities open up for me.

Goals and interests

Career goal

I intend to work with children and adolescents in a clinical setting providing therapy to underserved communities. I hope to spend some time working and building enough experience so that I can own my own practice. I hope to open my own clinic in the future in the inner city of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. My ultimate goal is to be able to have a clinic for African American/people of color and provide therapy to them.

Graduate school interests

Some interest of mine thus far in Graduate school, are reading books outside of class. My top three favorite books are 1. Becoming by Michelle Obama 2. The Body Keeps The Score by Bessel Van Der Kolk, and 3. The New Jim Crow Mass Incarceration In The Age Of Colorblindness by Michelle Alexander. Aside from reading, I enjoy intense workouts and eating healthy. I recently was elected on Marquette's Graduate Student Organization's Executive Board as the Diversity Chair. I focus on culture and how to connect that to students on campus.
