Olga Ossipova

Hello, my name is Olga but, I go by Olya. I am an immigrant and the first generation of my family to attend College in America. Growing up in NYC, I've been exposed to many different cultures, perspectives, and classes. This has tremendously shaped the person who I am today.

So, who am I? At the moment, I'm a full-time college student at Fordham University studying Economics, Bioinformatics and Cybersecurity and a full-time Project Manager at the Healthcare Technology firm AlphaRidge. Coming from a lower class background and the streets of Brooklyn, I've been taught that hard work is a must, not a plus. Brooklyn has also taught me that diversity is beautiful and that societal disruption is an instigator of success. I've tried to apply these principles to my daily life and continued education.

Working in healthcare technology startup, I've been able to delve into the nit and grit of the technological problems in healthcare today. Healthcare is definitely a lagging industry from a technological perspective. At AlphaRidge, we work to change that. Here I'm able to work on the development of an interoperability platform for major electronic health record systems as well as assist in the building of stable technological environments at medical practices across NYC. I've been given the opportunity to explore all departments associated with a business and given the authority to run them. It is a remarkable learning experience that has exponentially furthered my interest in Healthcare Cybersecurity. This leads me to my studies.

Though being a full-time student and a full-time worker is at times exhausting, it has given me a keen insight into my interests and how I can apply them. At Fordham, my unique combination of Economics with Cybersecurity and Bioinformatics allows me to explore and to study the key components of the newly formed fields within Healthcare and Technology. An Economic perspective allows me to keep in mind the real world possibilities and monetary limitations of these fields. And working in a Healthcare Technology startup allows me to join all of my teachings into practice. I may even venture to say that my job has given me a head start on my education as I've developed more of a technical background from work than I may have from college thus far.

My combination of interests all revolve around my ambition to help society. In the new technological environment of today, we still see many people suffering. Many people have dire health problems, plenty live below poverty level and technology isn't being utilized at anywhere near its full potential to address any of these issues. But at the same time, with the development of technology comes the need for new types of security to prevent intrusion into health records and bank accounts, etc. I'd really like to be a contributor to breakthroughs in Healthcare, new highs of economic stability, increases of the happiness index worldwide and to the safety of people. Most importantly, I think I can do this and I think many people around the world are going to join together to address the issues that I have mentioned. We will see the true effects of disruption and the progress it leads to very very soon. And I am very excited to be a part of this.
