Rasheed Atwater

As a student at Eastern Michigan University and double major in History and Africology and African American Studies I have learned that education is both theoretical and practical.

By viewing education through these lenses I have been able to succeed both in college and in my community. Academically I have become a member of Eastern Michigan University's dean's list, McNair scholars program, and published a book review in the Gaudium Sciendi. Through my community involvement I have won the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. humanitarian award, served with Task Force Flint to assist with the Flint Water crisis with the Michigan National Guard, and I currently serve on Eastern Michigan University's Student Leader Group as the student representative for the College of Arts and Sciences. In addition, I am currently an intern for the City of Ypsilanti's Community and Economic Development Departments and teach History and Africology classes at Parkridge Community Center in Ypsilanti, Michigan.
