About

I have been a college student since the fall of 2009. When I graduated high school I was unsure of where I would be the following year, let alone the rest of my life. Due to a difficult home life, I struggled to make good grades and stay involved in high school. Because of this, I began my college career at Jefferson Community and Technical College (JCTC), in hopes of saving money, gaining college experience, and discovering my professional passions. While I was a part-time student at JCTC I worked full-time as an assistant pre-school teacher. Over time I fell in love with teaching young people, but I knew that I wanted to work with older students while exploring my intellectual capabilities. I then decided to major in Secondary Education with a focus in English and Political Science, and I would fulfill this goal at Indiana University Southeast (IUS). While attending IUS I have grown immensely both personally and intellectually. I have overcome all of the obstacles put before me. I have joined the IUS Community Choir and volunteered for campus events. I have developed positive relationships with all of my professors. I have earned an overall grade point average of 3.65 and lately a consistent grade point average of 4.0. Furthermore, while taking full-time classes at IUS I have held several jobs including babysitting three young children and substitute teaching, both of which I have enjoyed a great deal.

Goals and interests

Career goal

My goal is to lead and inspire high school students towards achieving their goals. I would like to teach grades eleven and twelve, but I will be certified and happy to teach grades six through twelve. I hope to become certified in two content areas: English (Language Arts) and Political Science (Civics). Throughout my career, I hope to teach in public, private, progressive, montessori, and/or alternative schools. I would also like to teach in different states and counties. However, I would like to find a school where I could spend the majority of my career.

Graduate school interests

I would like to eventually attend graduate school. I am interested in English Composition, English Literature, and History programs. I hope to attain a master's degree while I teach, so I will be applying to programs that offer flexibility.

Outside the classroom

My hobbies are reading, writing, yoga, rock-climbing, hiking, training my dog, sketching, organizing, and cooking.
