About
“Every Accomplishment starts with the decision to try” – John F. Kennedy
Have you ever lived a life where you felt abandoned and unwanted by someone? My name is Rebecca Hatt and I have experienced this feeling since the day I took my first breathe on this planet. I was put into foster care when I was born but I was fortunate to receive a new & happy beginning of my life when I was adopted by two wonderful people. I am a full-time student at Metropolitan State university. My journey to get here is one of great strength, determination, strong will and sacrifice. It began ten years ago when I decided that I wanted to make a difference in the world. I wanted to make a difference because I have seen children in this world who have been through hell and back in the foster care system. Watching children being thrown into the foster care system and have their lives turned upside down, made me realize that I wanted to be a strong and dependable advocate for children. When I started my journey, I became a teacher who studied early childhood education because of my passion and love for children. Children need someone one in this chaos of a world who they can depend on for support, love and understand what is best for them.
I started at a university right out of high school but didn’t work out because the campus style did not connect with my values or interests and became a burden of distraction on my academic path. So, I decided that I needed a less stressful path for college and attended community college. Community college gave me the opportunity to go to school at my own pace and to work a full-time job sometimes multiple jobs which helped me grow in my responsibilities as a young adult. Because I worked full time to pay my own tuition and was also a full-time student, I was not able to participate in a lot of social activities or clubs so I could remain focused and determined on my studies.
My education throughout my life has been hard due to my disability of having an auditory processing disorder. This disability impacted my ability to learn information that made me study and focus for longer periods of time than most other students. Even with this challenge, I have managed to excel beyond my limits to achieve my Associate degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE) and work my way towards a Bachelor’s degree in Human development and family studies with a minor in human services despite being told numerous times over my years that I would not be able to achieve them. I am more determined than ever to succeed.
The world we live in today times are uncertain, but our goals are not. The world needs all the support and love it can get in order to become a better place than it was before. My future is in the unknown, but I do know that I will become a great asset to children who need help and to be shown a little kindness in their lives. I believe that my future is bright and will offer rewards that is only known as being selfless. I feel and believe that the assistance I can receive in scholarships to further my education can help others in need bounce back from times of suffering and they can become better versions of themselves. I still have many chapters of my life that I want to reach, and I will always put in the effort to achieve it.
