Goals and interests
- Career goal
My career goal is to become a health care professional so that I can help those in need. Through my work, I want to bring awareness to issues such as mental health, women empowerment, and caring for special needs individuals in places that lack the resources and funding. While academics have been my primary focus, I continue to play soccer and work towards a kinesiology degree so while working in the health care industry I can also be able to coach or teach the younger generation the importance of health and sports.
- Graduate school interests
I would like to go to a medical school that gives an importance to rural and remote medicine. I understand the importance and need for health professionals in these areas. My parents are from a small tropical island and hearing their stories led me to pursue undergrad in a rural and remote place in the United States. Overcrowding, substance abuse, the inability to receive proper health care are just a few problems I noticed in affecting the community my university is situated in. I want to help by not just learning about these problems but attending a university that specializes in competencies relevant to rural, remote and tropical medicine and the health of Indigenous communities. This will equip me to be able to help the under-served populations in an effective way.
