Goals and interests

Career goal

I plan on teaching 2nd- 4th grade in the Yelm Community School District after graduation.

Graduate school interests

I will complete my MIT at St. Martin's University June 2019.

Outside the classroom

As an older student, I tend to take the lead and nurture my classmates that I see untapped potential in. I have already had my "wild & crazy" college days over 15 years ago when I completed my BA in Culinary Arts & Hospitality Management, so my hobbies are mostly family and/ or community related. Naturally, I spend a majority of my free time with my husband of 13+ years, Gary, and our two daughters, Liberty- 10 and Kaileigh- 7. I am a huge believer in leading by example, so we volunteer as a family (when possible) for one of the many organizations that benefit our military/ veterans, our kid's school, or our community. I teach private cooking lessons to students of all ages (3-87 years old). This enables me to share my love of cooking, as well as providing vital life skills and knowledge to my students so they can prepare nutritious & delicious meals without expensive delivery services. Movie nights on the couch snuggled up in a blanket are a favorite while I'm limited by my school schedule. In regular life, I love to travel and explore other cultures, everything from their food, religion, history, to customs. As a middle-class white woman, I usually have a stereotype immediately attached to me which I work hard to shatter. The more educated and genuinely experienced I am with other cultures, the better equipped I am to erase any assumed divides to forge mutually beneficial & meaningful relationships.
