Samuel W Fink

I am currently studying to be a civil engineer at University of Minnesota - Duluth. I have yet to decide which specific discipline to enter but it is between structural and transportation. I made the Dean's List at the Swenson School of Science and Engineering at UMD. Ever since I could hold a baseball bat, I have adored baseball. Though my playing days are behind me, I am currently employed as an umpire for the Minnesota Youth Athletic Service. I recently finished 4th in my age division at the Fargo Marathon. To keep my mind busy during long runs, I often find myself making calculations in my head. This unveils my guilty pleasure: mathematics (a field of study of which I wish to minor). I strive to figure out how things work. A great way to enable me to discover the world is physics (also pursuing a minor). This leads me to my true passion. I often find myself gazing at bridges, tunnels, buildings and structures and thinking to myself 'how in the world did we (humans) manage to do that'. That is why I am aspiring to become a civil engineer.
