About

My name is Sandra Garcia-Cruz. I am a recent high school graduate and a current student at McLennan Community College completing an associate’s degree in social work and planning on transferring to a four-year college or university. My educational aspirations consist of acquiring a bachelor’s degree in mental health that would assist me in pursuing a career as a social worker. My career vision is to one day be able to help women and kids that have been hurt and provide counsel to help them become a stronger person. I am the first to be attending college in my family and I want to be a great example to my younger siblings. My mom has been battling breast cancer for a year and my dad is the only one who provides for the family income. I want to achieve my career more than anything so one day I can give a part of what my parents have done for me back. As well to be a great role model to my younger sister and brother, to show them that with hard wok anything is possible.

Goals and interests

Career goal

As I achieve my degree in social work I would like to work with women, children, family and schools. Social workers work with children and families who are struggling with social and psychological issues at school, in the home or in their communities. Social workers in these environments interact with a wide variety of issues related to children, families and school life. I do not plan to stop just as I receive my Bachelor's but to keep on going to achieve my Masters in social work. It will open up more doors for my job opportunities and a more broad variety of choices to help others.

Outside the classroom

I was raised in church so now I involve a lot of my time to participating within. I'm a leader of the drama team there in my church which I love being a part of. I enjoy being with my family and friends which are a huge part of my life and my number one supporters. I love going out of town and especially to see concerts. I love being around kids which will be a part of my career.
