About
I am currently a nursing student at Mount Carmel College of Nursing at the State of Ohio. I am studying to be a pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) nurse. I was born in Buffalo, New York but I grew up in Dublin, Ohio. I come from a Somali ethnic background and I am fluently bilingual in Somali and English. My parents moved to America in year of 2000 in hopes of providing better education and knowledge for me and my siblings. Me and my 9 siblings strive to build a better future for our parents because they have sacrificed their so much us to have a better life here in America. Growing up, I've always been a caregiver for my younger siblings, especially for my Type 1 diabetic younger sister. Throughout my childhood, I helped her stabilize her blood sugar, gave her insulin, and monitor her carbohydrate intake to prevent hypo/hyper-glycemia. Throughout my life, I have advocated for my younger sister in the healthcare to receive better quality treatment because she's very important to my life. This journey inspired me to become a nurse in the healthcare setting and advocate for children just like my sister. Some quality things about my life is that I am a member of the volunteer organization at OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital. I had volunteered throughout my highschool period to experience healthcare in real time. I currently work at OhioHealth Dublin Methodist Hospital as a UC in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) caring for neonate patients and providing comfort for their families. I am working towards my goal to becoming an advocate in the healthcare setting and eliminating many of the disparities that are common among certain population and providing equal quality care for all my patients.

- Career goal
I am currently studying nursing and obtaining my bachelors of science and nursing degree. I plan to work at a children's hospital specifically on a pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) to care for acute critically ill patients. I have started my nursing career early with the intentions that I am able to provide adequate care for my patients and eliminate any healthcare disparities that may arise.
- Graduate school interests
After I complete my bachelors degree I plan to apply for masters degree in Nurse Practitioner
- Outside the classroom
I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, and babysitting for my family members. At a young age, I grew up spending majority of my time at the library reading books to experience the imaginary adventures. To this day and age, I still enjoy reading many different genre's of books and one of the many reasons is because it helps me understand that there are other people who have had similar experiences in life, and better, they had the ability to express it in words.
