About

My studies have centered on digital libraries and my career aspirations include working in a capacity as a Metadata and/or Catalouing librarian. I will graduate in May 2016 with my MLIS and Certificate in Digital Libraries. I've had the opportunity to work in several internships and library jobs to develop my skills as a professional librarian. My experience up to now has been acquired while working in archives. First as an undergraduate student worker, and now as an Archives Intern at a nonprofit foundation. Many institutions are digitizing their archival materials which creates roles for both digital archivists and metadata librarians. I would love to be a part of a digitization project that helps to increase the accessibility of collections.

Many archives have wonderful collections that may go underutilized simply because no one knows about them. My primary aspiration as a library and information professional is to empower users by making them aware of the resources that are available to them. The depth and detail of metadata directly influences the discoverability of resources; and the role of the cataloguing librarian is growing increasingly important. I have always thought of librarianship as one of the most altruistic vocations; the job is helping and enriching individuals. Our profession is grounded in connection and collaboration. Librarians must be advocates for the community we serve while providing access to information and resources. If a patron leaves the building having learned something, then that is a success
