About
Hello! My name is Shayla Rubbani, and I am a Freshmen at University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. I’m Pre-Med with a major in Kinesiology major and an Arabic minor, I am originally from Wisconsin. Though I have many interests, I have directed most of my attention to Kinesiology and sports medicine. I have worked as a personal trainer helping many rehabilitation clients. I have worked with a large variety of people that would include past surgeries and injuries to health conditions and disabilities. I can solve problems and find creative solutions. Recently I had a client that was deaf and we found creative ways to understand each other. We had great communication. While in college, I have also had the opportunity to participate in Kinesiology Undergraduate Student Organization this year thus far. It was a great benefit because it introduced like-minded individual who does know what it is and can set something to motion. I am currently anxiously waiting for the possibility of volunteering this summer and gaining experience working with faculty conducting research. You may have noticed that I'm also pursuing an Arabic minor. I have always been interested in language studies, and learning about different cultures. As a child, I would walk with my older sister to the library and I would get books, cd, tapes, and anything I could on different countries, cultures’, and their languages. I would get many self-learning language sets also. I've taken Spanish courses in high school and I would enforce my learning by writing letters to a friend that was a native Spanish speaker. The biggest aid to me was learning from my multicultural group of friends. It was like a language exchange. I learned a little Hmong, a few Chinese words, French phrases, and much more. I even played on a private Hmong Soccer league in which I had the opportunity to play in Hmong tournaments and be exposed to the culture eve more. These experiences combined with my academic interests and my lifelong desire to travel is what drove my interest in the Arabic minor. Over the summer, I will be working with the universities research department and taking on as many opportunities related to the medical field as I can. I will also be actively competing throughout the summer and academic year. My goal would be to break state record I previously set as well as reach new heights in my sport. My goal is to become a well-rounded person that can relate to anyone that I encounter. To save the world, I should be able to understand the world.

Goals and interests
- Career goal
I intend to use my degree to pursue a job as one of the following:
Sports Medicine Physician
- Orthopedics
- Podiatry- Graduate school interests
I aim to go to Medical School and pursue orthopedics. My goal is to connect kinesiology research to my clinical practice allowing me to bridge the gap that exists between linking exercise science and medical practice together. There have been many programs developed along with the addition of sports medicine clinics that is assessable to everyday people. I would like to be a part of that growing movement. I will be able to do this by gaining knowledge of the human body in an allopathic medical school; also, by making patient care a component of my career as a sports medicine physician. A medical degree will allow me to take insight from these clinical interactions and transfer them into the lab to ask the most relevant questions while having practical knowledge to pursue these inquiries. The new knowledge gained from these inquiries pursued would benefit my patients and clinical practice. Pursuing a background in allopathic medicine and research would prepare me for a career in which I can make advancements in sports medicine.
