About
In April, I started an Etsy business called Stickies by CnS, together with my two elder siblings, which designs and sells stickers. Over the years, they have seen my creativity expressed through my doodles, and they thought that it was a good idea to sell them. Taking their suggestion, I started sketching my ideas and was finally able to create my own original line of stickers, featuring my character, Sarah. Before, I struggled in naming her, but when I asked my family and friends for their suggestions, they all advised me to name it after myself since it looked like me. She sports long dark brown hair, circular cheeky face, and a pizza doodle on her t-shirt. With our “striking” similarities, I decided to name her Sarah because it was my favorite name. As our sales increase, I begun to realize that whatever form art takes, there is a group to which it appeals, which, in this case, is the “planner community.”
During that same month, I was expanding my creative outlet by taking classes that uses a medium I have never worked with before– sculpting. Since entering college, I have only taken 2D art classes, where after countless hours of continuously painting and drawing and agonizing, I ended up with planar artworks. While I am proud of most of my works, I felt limited when I showcased them as part of my portfolio. This semester, however, I was finally able to create 3D objects in my sculpting class. I used hammer and chisel to create a “two-faced” apple, got my hands dirty and dry while sculpting a deer with clay, and enjoyed creating both pieces. By adding them to my portfolio, I feel like my portfolio, together with my growing business, can comprehensively exhibit my capabilities as an art student.
