About

My name is Shelby Sorensen. I was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, and raised in Reno, Nevada, by my adoptive family. Growing up, my hobbies were books, music, and staying active outside at home. I participated in the school newspaper, yearbook, and dance team during high school as I worked through advanced placement courses. I attended the University of Nevada, Reno, and completed a Bachelor of Science in Information Systems in 2013. While there, I joined the business fraternity, Delta Sigma Pi and participated in our school’s Enactus team. From 2013-2022 I focused on a career in optics. Moving to Sacramento, CA. I worked for private offices before joining LensCrafters. I hold a license with the State of California and the American Board of Opticianry.
By the end of my career, I was assistant manager of our region’s training store. After much thought during the pandemic, I returned to school and went into a field that has held my interest since childhood. Currently, I am attending the University of Oklahoma to obtain my dual Master’s degree in Museum Studies and Library and Information Studies. As I attend school online, I currently work as the office manager for Folsom History. My interests in the field are special collections, archives, and social justice advocacy.
