About

My name is Sierra Young and I have a pretty interesting story that will explain my drive to help one of the most needy segments of our society- abused children. My story begins at the age of five months, when I was rescued by Social Services from a crack house, abused and drug addicted. My journey to wholeness began with the Social Worker who delivered me to a loving adoptive home, where I flourished and healed. Due to my beginnings, my heart goes out to abused and addicted children who have no way of helping themselves. I have decided to dedicate my life to this quest. I began my college experience at Collin Community College in Dallas Texas and completed my first year with a 3.5 GPA. At the conclusion of my associates degree, I will be transferring to TAMUC to work on my Bachelors of Social Work. Upon completion, I may consider entering the Masters of Social Work program. I am a hard worker thanks to my wonderful role-model of a father who completed nine years of University for his PHD in Math and Sciences. His "never give up" attitude and lessons to work like a dog for every mark has been a huge motivator to get me where I am now.

Goals and interests

Career goal

I am studying to work as a Child and Family, drug and abuse Social Worker. I have always had a drive to serve and help others, and I have decided that walking down the path that I was once on with other children in need is my calling.

Graduate school interests

Currently I am entertaining the possibility of continuing my education through to the Masters of Social Work degree.

Outside the classroom

I have always enjoyed dancing and being involved with art. Currently, I am on a dance team called IZAVIBE where we work together to promote cultural diversity, encouraging appreciation for different cultures. On this team, we also have the opportunity to become leaders ourselves. I make jewelry through resin art, and I enjoy honing my culinary skills when I'm not playing my Kalimba. I began walking dogs for fun which has turned into training them for close neighbors.
