Dear Honor Society:
The experience that qualifies me for the precious opportunity you offer is the internship I had in the United Nations. As a child of a correspondent, I have worked with journalistic reporting since I came to U.S. in 2014, publishing over 20 articles in preeminent media forums. Therefore, my skill in socializing with people enhanced gradually. Living in different cities such as Beijing, Houston, and New York also gives me a global vision, which prevents me from an unilateral view when dealing with people. When dwelling in distinct environments, language is a tremendous advantage I have. I can communicate facilely with Chinese and English speakers. Thus, by becoming one of your students, I also become a bridge for cross-cultural communication.
My interest in media took place in school also, as I am the feature editor of the school's newspaper, The Southerner. I initiated my literary career in school's clubs after an entire year in varsity track team. When I was in eleventh grade, I was a staff for our school's magazine, Exit 33, which won a national prize for having expressive poetries and sundry graphics. Now, as a twelfth grader and one of the chief editors in the club, I wish writing can bring out the inner voices of my peers and gather attention for the troubled ones. As a result, I participated in Global Angel and Midnight Run to help people in need. Throughout the year, we donated more than five hundred pieces of clothing to ghettos in downtown, Brooklyn. Currently, I'm still passionate about charity and hope to attract more freshman and sophomore to shape our community.
Reading literature from Anna Carolina to Norwegian Wood, listening music from Chopin to Skrillex, and checking NY Times on tablet devices can all be my routines.
However, the activity I found most intriguing is to explore new things. It might sound hackneyed and too generalized, but living in the multifaceted New York, I'm able to do campaigning for a legislator one day and volunteering for a suicide hotline another day because there are so many opportunities. In fact, one of my extracurricular activities is to bring friends to join in the Long Island Crisis Center, since I love to help people and am interested in psychology. Journalism, of course, remains the central focus, and from publishing articles, I explored the world further and deeper.Although I am only a senior in high school, I hope you give me an opportunity to apply for scholarship for my future studies. I believe I have obtained enough knowledge in journalism since I earned eight credits from Harvard University in Journalism and Writing in the 2016 summer break.
Thank you for your consideration. If you have any questions, please contact me at any time.
Best Regard,
