Stephanie Smith

My name is Stephanie Smith, and I am not your average college student. At 45 years old, I am a mother of a four-year-old who decided to pursue my degree before my daughter does. I am currently working towards an Associate of Arts degree in General Studies, with plans to transfer to the University of Florida for a Bachelor of Arts in Business. Returning to school after 20 years was challenging, but this college truly feels like a part of me. My father Bill Newcomb, served as the head of public safety from 1986 to 2005, at that time our home was on campus. I earned my cosmetology license here in 2000; back then, it was Lake City Community College. Then I was apart of the work-study program, as I am now. As a full-time college student, I am a member of the Phi Theta Kappa. I am involved with the FGC cheer team and I am the college mascot, Bolt. I am grateful for the opportunity to represent the college that I love so much. If I can do this at my age, anyone can. There is no better school than FGC, in my opinion!
