About
As one who aspires to become a physician, I chose to major in Nutritional Sciences because I realized that a multitude of chronic diseases that people suffer from can be prevented, and in some cases, even treated by the implementation of proper nutrition. Obtaining a deeper comprehension of the biochemical effects of dietary components on the body’s systems, as they vary based on one’s genotype, will allow me to develop personalized nutritional strategies in order to optimize the health of the patients I serve. It is my utmost desire to be a physician that aims to address the underlying health issues of patients rather than solely treating their symptoms or managing their condition. Also, with obesity being the number one health threat in our country, I want to tackle this public health issue not only by working directly with my patients and their families, but through leadership roles in organizations that allow me to promote physical activity and encourage healthy dietary habits in the community at large. I plan to incorporate the knowledge I have acquired from my undergraduate education in Nutritional Sciences into my professional career in order to achieve my overarching goal of being a doctor who is truly for the people.
