About

Sydney Harris is a recent graduate of Oakwood University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Food and Nutrition. During her time at Oakwood, she served as the Director of Realizing Every Act Can Help (REACH), organizing community service and outreach events for students who were eager to volunteer and give back. Sydney was also a member of the Oakwood University Honors Program, the Alpha Chi Honor Society, and participated as a student researcher in the Historically Black Colleges & Universities Undergraduate Program (HBCU-UP). Beyond her academic and extracurricular involvement, she gained valuable experience through on-campus research, internships at esteemed institutions, and dedicated service to her campus community.

Sydney has always been passionate about helping others. Her parents instilled in her the importance of service from a young age, and she has consistently remained involved in volunteer work and community initiatives, both within and outside of school.

Her career goal is to become a Public Health Nutritionist, focusing on creating impactful change in minority communities, particularly those living in food deserts with limited access to resources and nutritional education. During her undergraduate studies, she gained a deep understanding of human biology and the inner workings of it. This knowledge, coupled with her growing interest in nutrition, helped her recognize the vital role proper nutrition plays in disease prevention and overall well-being.

Goals and interests

Career goal

Ultimately, my career goal is to become a Public Health Nutritionist. In this role, I plan to analyze data on population health, design community-based nutrition programs, and create educational content that promotes well-being on a larger scale. My passion also extends to policy advocacy. I want to work behind the scenes with lawmakers to help shape and reform legislation that addresses the systemic barriers contributing to poor nutrition in underserved communities.

Graduate school interests

I will continue my education at Loma Linda University, pursuing a Master of Public Health in Nutrition with a Coordinated Program in Dietetics. Achieving my goal of becoming a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist.
