About

I am a graduate student at Lamar University. I enrolled in the program in the fall of 2015. I thoroughly enjoy learning and broadening my understanding of leadership and hope to become a impactful leader of students in the local community of Houston, Texas. As a product of an impoverished community, I understand the influence that a teacher can have on a student who doesn't see a way out. Though I can and have made a difference in the classroom, I believe that so many more lives could be changed as a building leader.

Goals and interests

Career goal

I intend on becoming an assistant principal within the next 2 years. A long-term goal would be to eventually become a principal of a local Title 1 school within my community.

Graduate school interests

I most enjoyed the practicum activities that allow me to experience many responsibilities of a school principal. The most interesting course that I've completed was on School Law. I realized that there was so much about school law that I was misinformed or uninformed about. As a graduate student I have also enjoyed the suggested readings that broaden my understanding of the expectations of a campus leader.

Outside the classroom

I enjoy spending time with my family most. Quality time spent at home or traveling is what interest me most. I also enjoy reading professional text as well as for entertainment. I am also a member of the Zumba club in my community and feel exhilarated after a session of dancing and fun. Playing or teaching music is something else that brings me comfort and is a huge stress reliever.
