About

Hello, I'm Thurrayah Asylum, a current high school senior set to graduate in June 2024. I would like to introduce myself and the diverse range of experiences that have shaped my journey towards personal and professional growth.

I had the incredible opportunity to contribute as a teen intern at the Bridge Inc. Summer Program. Throughout the program, I took on various roles, including program support, group supervision, and mentorship. This experience allowed me to develop a versatile skill set and gain insights into different aspects of organizational dynamics.

Volunteering at Refugee Assistance Partners (RAP) in Scotch Plains, NJ, was a deeply enriching experience. I assisted resettled refugees in their development, actively participating in social, cultural, and recreational community activities. Additionally, I dedicated my time to providing ESL tutoring for literate and illiterate children in various languages. This hands-on involvement reinforced my commitment to fostering inclusivity and community support.

As the current secretary of the Irvington High School Environmental Club, I take pride in organizing meetings, managing admissions, preparing agendas, and recording minutes. These responsibilities have honed my organizational skills and allowed me to actively contribute to the club's initiatives.

In my role as a JROTC cadet, specifically serving as the Sergeant of my squad, I have achieved multiple accomplishments. Leading my squad involves ensuring impeccable formations, submitting attendance reports, checking for merits and demerits, and maintaining the squad's excellence. I take pride in reporting this crucial information to the Battalion Sergeant Major.

These experiences collectively define my journey, shaping me into a well-rounded individual with a commitment to community service, leadership, and environmental advocacy. I am eager to gain more skills and leverage them as I embark on the next chapter of my academic and professional in Engineering pursuits after graduating in June 2024.
