Tien Nguyen

I am currently a Medical Technology student at Georgia State University Perimeter College in Dunwoody, GA. I am studying to be a medical technician and transfer to Georgia State University Atlanta campus to major in biochemistry. I look further ahead to be a medical student and become a surgeon. I had a family passed away when I was 9 years old which made me always dreamed to be a future doctor or a medical scientist. I left Vietnam and came to America when I was 13 years old. I speak Vietnamese, and English. I was one of the ten members of the Winship Cancer Institute Summer Scholars Research Program in my high school senior year. I was assigned to work with Dr. Oswaldo Henriquez at Grady Memorial Hospital to do a research on the persistent tobacco abuse in head and neck cancer survivors. During the program, I have seen patients in clinics, watched the head and neck cancer surgeries in the operating room and wrote a research paper. I finally won the Magaret H. Rollins Scholarship Award at the end of this program.
