Goals and interests
- Career goal
y goal is to build a career in victim services, where I can advocate for survivors of trauma, violence, and abuse. I’m drawn to this field because of personal experiences that showed me how vital compassion, understanding, and justice are in the recovery process.
I plan to work within community programs or the criminal justice system to ensure victims are heard, supported, and treated with dignity. My focus is on connecting individuals with the resources they need—mental health care, legal guidance, and emotional support—so they can begin healing.
Through my education at Florida State College at Jacksonville and my involvement with NAMI Jacksonville, I’ve strengthened my knowledge of crisis intervention, advocacy, and the social systems that impact survivors. My long-term goal is to become a certified victim advocate and contribute to reforming how communities respond to trauma.
- Graduate school interests
I plan to pursue graduate studies in psychology, social work, or criminal justice with a focus on trauma-informed care and victim advocacy. My goal is to gain advanced knowledge in crisis intervention, counseling, and justice reform to better serve survivors of violence and abuse.
I’m particularly interested in programs that emphasize both research and fieldwork — exploring how trauma impacts behavior, recovery, and access to justice. Graduate training will allow me to develop the professional and clinical skills needed to work directly with victims, collaborate with law enforcement, and influence policies that protect and empower survivors.
My long-term vision is to become a licensed advocate or counselor within the victim services field, helping bridge the gap between mental health support and the justice system.
- Outside the classroom
In my free time, I enjoy creative projects like custom apparel design and digital art, which allow me to express emotion and connect with others through creativity. I’m passionate about community involvement and often volunteer at local events focused on mental health awareness and family support.
I also enjoy reading true stories of resilience, exploring psychology and trauma recovery topics, and spending time with my family. These interests keep me grounded, strengthen my empathy, and inspire my ongoing commitment to advocacy and helping others heal.
Experience
-
Insurance Agent
My background as an insurance agent has given me valuable skills that directly support my goal of working in social work and victim services. In that role, I learned how to assess people’s needs during difficult times, explain complex information with compassion, and help clients make decisions that protect their wellbeing. Many of my interactions involved individuals coping with loss, trauma, or uncertainty — experiences that strengthened my ability to listen without judgment and respond with empathy. Working in insurance also taught me how to navigate detailed systems, maintain confidentiality, and advocate for fairness — all key responsibilities in social work. This experience showed me how trust, clear communication, and ethical practice can make a meaningful difference in someone’s recovery and sense of security.
