Undine Doret

Hello,

My name is Undine Doret and I am currently a student at Hunter Community College. Before I was attending my dream school NYU but because of the financial issues I had at the time. I had no chose but to transfer to another institution to pursue my bachelor degree.

My overall goal is to become a Dentist and I know in order for me to enter Dentistry other than taking the D.A.T., one of the other requirements is having a bachelor degree. Which is why I am pursuing my Psychology (B.A) degree at Hunter Community College. I wanted to pursue a degree that would be very helpful to me in the Dentistry field, which I feel Psychology can be in terms of understanding people and/or my future patients characteristics, attitudes and behaviors. For instance, psychology can help me with understanding people personalities more while teaching me what ways or how to conduct myself with a person base on their present actions and/or behaviors.

As for my overall goal, I have been very passionate about being a Dentist before even starting college because of my own experience of being a victim of being ignorant of understand how important it is to have good oral hygiene and health. Growing up in a low-income urban neighborhood where oral care is the least of peoples worries and having parents who were uneducated in the importance of having good oral health. I was very negligent towards my oral care. Ever since I became educated on oral health and overcame my own personal experience of having bad oral care by going to the dentist and taking care of my oral health. My passion for becoming a dentist cultivated and grow from that point. Since that time I personally vow to myself to help others with their oral care because I never want to see anyone go through what I went through or worse because of either being uneducated/ignorant in oral health and/or not having the financial funds to take care of their oral care.
