About

As a single mom, returning to school has been a powerful step toward creating a better future for myself and my family. I’ve faced many challenges along the way, having come from a difficult past, but I refuse to let those experiences define me. Instead, they’ve motivated me to push forward and accomplish things that will not only improve my life but also set a strong example for my children.

I am a perfectionist by nature, and this trait drives me to give my best effort in everything I do, especially when it comes to my education. I am persistent and dedicated to continuously bettering myself, knowing that each step forward brings me closer to a brighter future. I firmly believe that my past does not define my potential, and I am committed to overcoming any obstacle that comes my way. My journey is about growth, resilience, and setting the foundation for a better life, both for myself and my family.

Goals and interests

Career goal

In the field of social work and human services, passion is what fuels my desire to advocate for those who need support the most. It means being deeply invested in the well-being of individuals, understanding their struggles, and providing the resources and care they need to heal and thrive. Passion drives me to go beyond the basics of the job and continually seek out new ways to make a greater impact, whether it’s through direct service or by influencing policies that affect children and families on a larger scale.

When I think of passion in my career, I think of it as the energy that keeps me motivated even when faced with challenges. Social work can be demanding, emotionally draining, and sometimes overwhelming, but my passion keeps me grounded in my goal to improve the lives of others. It also motivates me to continuously learn, grow, and push myself to become the best professional I can be. Ultimately, being passionate about my major and career means dedicating myself to a cause that is bigger than myself—one that can leave a lasting, positive legacy in the communities I serve.

Graduate school interests

My decision to pursue graduate school stems from my deep passion for social work and my desire to make a meaningful impact on the lives of vulnerable populations, especially children. Through my work with organizations like the Weingart Center and Brielle Institute, I’ve seen firsthand the challenges many face, and I’m motivated to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to better support those in need. Grad school will provide me with a more nuanced understanding of trauma-informed care, mental health counseling, and community-based social work, which are areas I’m particularly interested in.

The opportunity to study under faculty whose research focuses on child welfare and systemic change is one of the main reasons I’m excited about this program. I’m also eager to engage in hands-on clinical practice and internships that will allow me to refine my skills while directly benefiting the communities I aim to serve.

Ultimately, I want to leverage the advanced knowledge and skills gained through grad school to become a more effective social worker—one who not only helps individuals on a case-by-case basis but also advocates for policy changes that will benefit at-risk children and families on a larger scale. My goal is to empower others, foster positive social change, and build healthier, stronger communities."

Outside the classroom

In my free time, I enjoy expressing my creativity through drawing and painting, which allows me to relax and explore my artistic side. Art provides me with a way to capture my thoughts and emotions visually, and it’s a constant source of inspiration in my life. I also love to dance, as it’s a way for me to stay active while also connecting with music and expressing myself through movement.

I make time for exercise regularly, whether it’s a full workout or simply going on walks, which help clear my mind and keep me energized. Walking in nature or around my neighborhood is one of my favorite ways to unwind and stay centered.

Traveling is another passion of mine. I love experiencing new places and immersing myself in different cultures. Trying new foods from around the world is something I find especially exciting, as it allows me to explore the unique flavors and traditions that define a place. Each new experience helps broaden my perspective and fuels my curiosity for the world around me.
