About
Hello, my name is Vanessa Adan. I am a college junior at the University of Nebraska-Omaha. I am the first generation in my family to be in college. Ever since I was little girl, I knew my existence in this world had a purpose to fulfill the well being of others. Meaning, I always had a good heart in wanting to help others improve their life for better in any way I can. Which is one of the reasons why I pursuing my career in becoming a Social Worker. My calling in wanting to pursue a career in social work really started when I was in high school. I spend a lot of my free time doing volunteer work in my community, church, and school. The impact that I was doing in other people's lives give me the passion to want to continue doing it. At the moment, I am not volunteering work do to the Covid-19 pandemic, however, I have part time as a peer mentor that I am making a impact in the experience for freshman first-generation college students.

Goals and interests
- Career goal
My goal in my career of being a social worker is to gain different experiences in working in places where people need help. I would like to work in the school environment or hospital environment. Maybe, later on, open up my private therapy session with clients but, at moment I want to gain experience working with children or older adults.
- Graduate school interests
I do plan to go to grad school after a few years when I have my bachelor's degree first. I have personally been thinking about going to grad school since I was a freshman in college because many of the things I want to do as a social worker is more of master level work. I think I will most likely go to grad school in my hometown since I financially do not know how I will pay to go grad school yet.
