Vanessa Garcia

Hello! My name is Vanessa and I am a pediatric registered nurse in California. I am currently pursuing my bachelors degree in Nursing and wish to work as a public health nurse specializing in school aged children when I am completed. I am very honored to be a part of the honor society and to have the opportunity to higher my education. I am very proud to say that I am the first person in my family to have earned a college degree, not just one, but this will be number six for me! All of my degrees have been in the health sciences (Biology, Life science, Nursing, Pre allied health, & Medical assisting ). My father was a single dad, an US Army veteran, and immigrant. Growing up I faced many difficulties that I overcame and become the strong and determined woman that I am today. One of my favorite things to do is help people, and over the years I have completed volunteer work such as working with disabled children, writing notes of hope for families of the march of dimes, covid vaccine clinics, hospital volunteer, DSP note taking, and mental health fairs for college students. Academically, I have achieved many awards and recognitions reflected on my transcripts attached such as high honors, deans list, and multiple degrees. I am also a mom of 2 little boys, ages 9 and 12, who I adore and wish to be the best role model that I can be for them. They have been my motivation from the beginning, and have been there for me through many struggles including being a single mom for a period of time. The aftermath of Covid-19 and with the prices of everything increasing, it makes affording classes difficult while trying to balance normal life. A scholarship would really help me to pay for my last few remaining classes and relieve the stress of having to work extra hours.
