About
My name is Wendy Jade Estrada from Los Angeles, CA. I began my academic journey at Mount San Antonio College where I earned an Associate’s degree in English and another in Philosophy. I graduated from USC this past May with a bachelor’s degree in English, Creative Writing and am currently enrolled at Grand Canyon University in the Master’s in English with an emphasis in Education degree program.
I am obtaining this degree because throughout my academic journey, I have met inspiring individuals, as well as individuals who have been discouraged by higher education. As a POC, first generation American, and the product of teenage pregnancy, I want to offer students a safe space to learn, realize their strength, and develop a healthy relationship with education. Writing does not come easy to a lot of people, so I hope as a professor I can make students more comfortable and confident. I chose GCU because their Master’s in English with an emphasis in Education is exactly what I was looking for to prepare me for a lifetime of giving back to my community through teaching Literature and Writing.

Goals and interests
- Career goal
Upon receiving my Master's in English with an emphasis in Education, I intend to teach English (Literature, Creative Writing, and Composition) and a 2-year college. I began my college career at a community college and was inspired by the faculty to teach. I believe that I would be able to harbor a safe space for my future students to learn and thrive where they feel encouraged and supported. Too many times, I hear about professors that discouraged students and made the environment stress-inducing. English and writing are two difficult subjects that would be easier to handle in a classroom where they feel they can focus and understand the material. I want to make a difference in people's lives through education.
- Graduate school interests
I just started the English with an emphasis in Education Graduate program at Grand Canyon University. This program encompasses everything I value in teaching English to a diverse group of students.
- Outside the classroom
I write poetry and short stories mainly using my dreams for inspiration. I read about three books for leisure every month. I like to keep my physical health under control by remaining active and cooking. I am a dog, kitten, and plant mom.
