About

I want to be the recipient of the 2016/17 scholarships because I will be attending Maryville College in Maryville, Tennessee. I will be living on campus as a student athlete. My time may be limited for any type of job to pay for college due to my time spent for academics and athletics. Therefore, I don’t want to be hindered in graduating college.
Second to academics, basketball is a passion of mine. I currently have a 3.8 grade point average and took the ACT at the beginning of my junior year. I attained a 22 composite score on my ACT (English 26, Math 23, Reading 22, Science 23), . My experiences in basketball has peaked my interest in leadership. I accomplished several accolades while leading by example. I simply forced myself to do the things that others did not want to do.
At a very young age my family and church have been most important to me, shaping who I am. Family along with church helped me to better understand commitment as well as loyalty to others. Later in life the involvement in sports, such as basketball, has affected who I am by instilling in me a competitive spirit to succeed in whatever I set out to do. I measure success by always doing my best! Obviously, sports will affect my career choices in either the medical field or possibly business.
I believe that perseverance is the way to all good things. I am persistent about any goals I set. It is my goal to keep my focus and graduate on time. Also, it has always been my intent to pay my own way and it should not be my parent’s responsibility. I have an older brother and sister. My brother just graduated six months ago with a double-major in pre-med and a Biology degree. My sister is currently in her third year of college. I need this scholarship to help with my education without creating a financial burden for my parents.
Like other graduating high school students, I have to consider important decisions regarding my life: choosing a suitable place to further my education such as Maryville College and what are my passions. My choice of college is an expensive one but consists of high academic rigor and a focus on the liberal arts. Through the years, especially my last three years in high school, I had the opportunity to discover my passions. I hope to major in Pharmacy or perhaps Business Management because I enjoy assisting people within an organization in an effective way and under budget. As a manager, I seek an opportunity to guide others in accomplishing important goals and attaining success.
