About (Summary)

Hello, my name is Zachary White, I’m a senior at The Best Academy 6-12 and a member of the Honors Society and National Society of High School Scholars. I’m currently working on scientific research at the Georgia Institute of Technology in the powerlab, a lab based on mechanical engineering and in my case studying muscle physiology. In my previous experiences I’ve worked with graphical user interfaces showing live feedback on muscle activation. I have both in lab experience working with tools such as electromyography, dynamometer, ultrasound etc. and using coding languages such as MatLab, arduino, and javascript. I've planned to pursue a career in mechanical engineering since the 6th grade and plan on majoring in the same field in college. I'm born and raised in the city of Atlanta and spent some time growing up in rural areas so I enjoy doing outside activities such as fishing and hunting. I'm a three sport athlete with those sports being football, basketball, and soccer but I've only won multiple championships in basketball. I consider myself being a very ambitious, persevered leader and I'm very confident that mentors, teachers, and peers around me can vouch for that. Being a leader has taught me several soft and people skills because I now understand that being a leader doesn't always deem you of having the solution to every situation. For that, you must sometimes have to rely on those around you because your weaknesses may be their strengths and it's only motivating others to work at their full potential. That's one of the main reasons for being a leader right? Earlier I talked about my plans after high school as I want to major in mechanical engineering but later on double majoring in industrial or aerospace engineering. I have plenty of exposure with those fields as I'm taking an engineering course that my school offers. I've been enrolled in this class from freshman to senior year. My teacher/mentor is currently a mechanical engineer himself and plays a big role in me still being interested in engineering as he has provided me with several opportunities related to those professions. Some of those opportunities follow: The National Flight Academy, multiple state competitions, Project Engages(scientific research with grad students on GT campus ), engineering/STEM pods, college visits etc.

Honors and Awards

Project Engages
Gives you the opportunity to become a high school scientific researcher at Georgia Tech. You begin by going through 30 days of strict bootcamp to find out what type of lab and mentor/grad student fits you. You will then join their research project.
Georgia Tech Robotics Summer Scholars 1st place winners
Had the opportunity in working with different high schoolers around Georgia and competed in a robotic competition using the program arduino. This opportunity was only presented to those that worked in my lab but everyone was on different teams.
Science Fair 1st place winner
This past school year, pre-Covid, I advanced to the state science fair after winning first place in APS with the research studied at Georgia Tech.
Science Club
Project Engages sends two to three grad students to come to our campus to interact with us engages students. At my school there are currently only 3 engages students including me and we talk about preparation, college life, science related topics etc.
Project Success
A program my school offers mainly for seniors. This program allows us to interact closely with all male college graduates being that we're an all male school. They help us with college essays, presentations, scholarships and easy connections to colleges.
100 Black Men program
This is a program that my school offers for black male and females throughout APS helping them develop life skills and college readiness. Offers extra support in different school subjects.
Lawyer for a Day winners (consecutive years)
This is an organization started by my school that allows our school to compete amongst each other in being lawyers. Each team of two have their own lawyer they work with on the given case as you prepare to compete later in the semester.
Academic Decathlon
The Academic Decathlon is an annual high school academic competition organized by the non-profit United States Academic Decathlon. The competition consists of seven objective multiple choice tests, two subjective performance events, and an essay.
3rd place Oral presentation for Georgia Tech
This event occurred my first year involved in Project Engages usually held at the end of the summer portion of the program. We presented our research we'd been working on through a month in a half in front of hundreds of friends and family while being jud
Beta Club
The National Beta Club is an organization for 4th through 12th grade students in the United States. Its purpose is "to promote the ideals of academic achievement, character, leadership and service among elementary and secondary school students.".
1st place Code-a-Thon
This event was held by the top tier schools around the APS. The goal was working with your school in coding a ball through a program and finishing the course with the fastest time without going outside the course.
A/B Honor Roll
A list of students who have earned grades above a specific average during a semester or school year.
Top 5 percent
I was included in the top 5 percent of students in my school academic wise being I'm currently salutatorian.
The National Society of High School Scholars
Since 2002, the National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS) has been supporting young academics on their journey to college and beyond as they prepare to become the leaders of tomorrow.
Honor Society
Honor Society exists to enhance academic and professional success. The society's goal is to help you succeed, and to connect you with the people and opportunities to help you achieve your goals.
Participated in Asb 2020
The ASB mission is to encourage and foster the exchange of information and ideas among biomechanists working in those different disciplines and to facilitate the development of biomechanists as a basic and applied science.
Entrepreneurship/leadership pod
This program was created by my school to help the leaders in our building solve problems in our communities and school by grade level.
Engineering/STEM POD
This program allowed engineers to come and talk to the students involved in the program a couple of times a month. The STEM pod incorporated science, technology, engineering, and math in a curriculum.
The National Flight Academy
An experience for rising 7-12th graders that inspires interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). Participants live for 6 days surrounded by advanced technology, flight simulators, and virtual reality games

Grad School Interests

I would be interested in grad school if I feel as though my career is not set at a certain point in my college career.

Intended Job Path

I plan on having job offers from companies out of California or Arizona being these states compete with the highest average salaries for mechanical engineers. Also a second option would be having job offers preferably from California or Seattle being an aerospace engineer for the same reasons.
