Hello, my name is Zachary White, I’m a senior at The Best Academy 6-12 and a member of the Honors Society and National Society of High School Scholars. I’m currently working on scientific research at the Georgia Institute of Technology in the powerlab, a lab based on mechanical engineering and in my case studying muscle physiology. In my previous experiences I’ve worked with graphical user interfaces showing live feedback on muscle activation. I have both in lab experience working with tools such as electromyography, dynamometer, ultrasound etc. and using coding languages such as MatLab, arduino, and javascript. I've planned to pursue a career in mechanical engineering since the 6th grade and plan on majoring in the same field in college. I'm born and raised in the city of Atlanta and spent some time growing up in rural areas so I enjoy doing outside activities such as fishing and hunting. I'm a three sport athlete with those sports being football, basketball, and soccer but I've only won multiple championships in basketball. I consider myself being a very ambitious, persevered leader and I'm very confident that mentors, teachers, and peers around me can vouch for that. Being a leader has taught me several soft and people skills because I now understand that being a leader doesn't always deem you of having the solution to every situation. For that, you must sometimes have to rely on those around you because your weaknesses may be their strengths and it's only motivating others to work at their full potential. That's one of the main reasons for being a leader right? Earlier I talked about my plans after high school as I want to major in mechanical engineering but later on double majoring in industrial or aerospace engineering. I have plenty of exposure with those fields as I'm taking an engineering course that my school offers. I've been enrolled in this class from freshman to senior year. My teacher/mentor is currently a mechanical engineer himself and plays a big role in me still being interested in engineering as he has provided me with several opportunities related to those professions. Some of those opportunities follow: The National Flight Academy, multiple state competitions, Project Engages(scientific research with grad students on GT campus ), engineering/STEM pods, college visits etc.
