College is hard

Mar 30,2016

College is hard. People can tell you otherwise and they can try to convince you that it only gets worse form here. That college is easy, so enjoy it. That this will be the calmest time of your life, so enjoy it while you can. These people will also, in the same breath, tell you that you should have three internships, four jobs in your field, and have a 3.8 GPA if you ever want to make it far in this world.

For some reason these people always seem to be people that went to college when tuition was $500 a semester and scientific advancements were just no where near where they are now. Being a college student is hard. It just is. Especially if you try to work while taking classes, not to mention the study time for said classes. Plus a 10-40 hour a week job? Oh there’s also that little thing called a social life that so many of seem to forget about. College is a lot.

The stress of making sure your GPA is high, the stress of making sure that all of your assignments get in on time, that your paper is properly punctuated and flows well, that you get all three of your HonorSociety.Org articles in before the end of the month. Then there are jobs to pay for our rent, our tuition, and the food we all have to consume. Not to mention friend’s birthdays that for some reason always seem to fall on a weekday when you are working and have 4 tests to study for. Sometimes I find myself checking my phone and it is somehow 9 pm and I have to start getting ready for bed. Or the times when I check my phone and it’s somehow the middle of the night and I have to stop myself and realize that the day has somehow ended without my permission.

Day’s go by in a blur and the next thing you know it’s May and then there’s the stress of finding relevant internships that can somehow pertain to your major that will somehow come back for college credit, one that will [hopefully] pay you enough so you wont have to work a second job on top of a 40 hour a week internship.

I honestly don’t think that college students get enough credit. We do so much. I know people that are heavily involved on campus, work a job, and still somehow have time with friends, all while maintaining decent grades. I am honestly in awe of the people that I see on my college campus. College is hard and if anyone tells you otherwise they clearly don’t know what they are talking about. I do admit that some students have an easier time than others, but those students are still taking classes and perhaps working a job so they can simply make ends meet.

So, from one stressed-out, overworked, overly exhausted, coffee addicted college student to another, I salute you. I salute the students who work, who go to school and are involved in organizations, who have high GPA’s and have social lives. I salute you HonorSociety.Org members. I salute you college students. You work hard, and I am so proud of you.
