About
I am a junior at Eastern Michigan University (EMU). I am a level three nursing student, and I am set to graduate in December 2017, after three and a half years of college as opposed to four. I am currently contracted to complete a senior thesis before graduation. My senior thesis focuses on Deafness and hearing impairments in the healthcare field and the linkage between them, namely healthcare disparities. I am also presenting at EMU's Undergraduate Symposium on March 31, 2017, where I will be presenting my findings during a 15 minute speech. My research includes extensive literature review of published scholarly articles, as well as my own original, self-conducted research. Furthermore, I am signed up to travel to Taiwan during late July and early August of 2017, where myself and fellow nursing students will be studying abroad. While in Taiwan, we will be fulfilling our community nursing clinical requirements, and we will also be attending an international healthcare convention.
I keep myself extremely busy at the moment, as I work another job as a private nanny for a 10 year-old boy with cerebral palsy. I go to school full time, taking both nursing classes and general education classes, alongside the two jobs. I intend to keep myself this busy and keep working as hard as I am now after becoming a nurse, because I understand how valuable such a determination and drive to succeed can be in healthcare.

Goals and interests
- Career goal
After graduating from EMU in December 2017, I plan to work at the University of Michigan hospital as a Registered Nurse. I currently work as a patient care technician on an otolaryngology floor at the hospital, and my boss has invited me to join the staff as a nurse after graduation. Ultimately, my goal is to obtain a nursing position in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Mott Children's hospital. In order to further my nursing education, I have applied to participate in a nurse externship program during summer 2017, where I have the opportunity to follow and work with a practicing PICU nurse. Finally, after graduating from EMU, I also plan to go back to school at Lansing Community College to become a certified American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter. I am incredibly passionate about the Deaf community and culture, and becoming certified as a medical interpreter will not only open up several more opportunities for me, it will also warm my heart to work with ill Deaf patients in the hospital.
- Graduate school interests
At the moment, I am not interested in grad school, although I will be completing and publishing a senior thesis prior to graduating from undergrad school.
- Outside the classroom
I enjoy reading, writing, practicing gymnastics, hiking, fishing, boating, and traveling when possible.
