About
I am 19 years old and a sophomore at Northern Illinois University. I have a lot of experience working with children, mostly preschool and elementary age but I am also comfortable with newborns, toddlers and older. I have previously worked with a family who had a six-year-old and a nine-year-old, a family who had a four year old, and another family who had a newborn, three-year-old and a five-year-old.
In my sophomore year in high school, I took the Child Development class which discussed conception through birth and up to about four years old. Then in my junior year I took the Early Childhood 1 class, which was the first level of the preschool class. In this class, I had the opportunity obtain hands on experience and teach a preschool class. In doing so, I had to prepare lesson plans and assure that they met the learning requirement. I had to be creative and make sure they were educational at the same time. Then as a senior, I took the Parenting class as well as the Introduction to Teaching class. The Parenting class discussed discipline techniques and other issues such as divorces, separations, and blended families. In the introduction to teaching class, we discussed the method of creating lesson plans. We also discussed classroom layout, differences in the classroom including technology, and various teaching lessons. I also took the Early Childhood 2 class in which I taught the preschool class again.
All of these classes were taken in my hopes to one day become an elementary education teacher which is what I am currently going to school for. I have previously volunteered at the West Chicago Park District Safety Town Class, as a leader of my schools Future Educator Association chapter, and at the YARN Foundation.
I am currently a full time student and working hard towards my major. I am also working part time as a nanny three days a week. The family has a four year old and a one and a half year old. I also occasionally watch another little boy who is two years old. In addition to that, I am a substitute at a preschool. I keep busy, but I love what I do and I cannot wait to become a teacher one day.
