About

I am an M.S. Candidate at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine currently conducting research as a Research Scholar in University Hospitals, Neurology ICU Department. I am expected to graduate from the Physiology & Biophysics program in 2016. Prior to matriculating at CWRU, I worked as a Mental Health Clinician for LearningRx. I attended college at New York University in New York, NY graduating in 2013 with a degree in Economics and Chemistry, with a concentration in Neuroeconomics. While at NYU, I fenced epee on the varsity fencing team and served on the Dean's Student Advisory Board.

My academic and long-term plans include discovering the missing link between the social and hard sciences, and applying economic theories to healthcare systems.

Goals and interests

Career goal

Upon completion of my M.S. degree in Medical Physiology, I plan to apply to M.D. programs in pursuant of a career in healthcare as a clinician. My fields of interest strongly revolve around Neuro-Critical Care and Pediatrics.

Graduate school interests

My primary appointment in research is at University Hospitals Case Medical Center in the Department of Neurology where I am involved in a quality assurance project dealing with hospital procedure for performing lumbar punctures on children with meningitis prior to CT or MRI scans.

Alongside my academic interest in medicine, I am also heavily involved with several outreach projects. My previous volunteer interests have included several mission trips to Asia, including to China and Taiwan. Specifically, it was from my travels to Asia that prompted me to become even more interested in the broader image of today’s healthcare. In the summers of 2008 and 2009, I led two medical mission trips to Taiwan where I served underprivileged Chinese populations in both rural and urban settings. While in Taiwan, I worked as a volunteered at Taipei’s Tri-Service General Hospital, where I deeply became involved with dynamics of hospital healthcare, its patients, and the impact of illness on Chinese families.

This upcoming Spring semester, I will be taking a Bioethics course on “Death, Dying & Euthanasia”, I hope to further my perspective on the diverse healthcare systems across the world, primarily in Europe. In particular, I’m interested in expanding my knowledge on the ethical dilemmas that physicians face on a daily basis. Through comparing the systems in the U.S. and the Netherlands, I am interested in discussing the issues of end-of-life policies, Dutch legal framework, physician-assisted suicides, and the ethics facing legally sold cannabis, and much more.

Recently, I launched my nonprofit, Doctors for Better Care, where we have a mission statement to improve general public awareness of the current economic healthcare systems in America.
