Jenna Nellis

I am currently double majoring at Westmont College in Santa Barbara, California in Communication Studies and English (with a writing emphasis). As a student at Westmont College, I was inducted into the National Communication Honor Society, Lambda Pi Eta, during my third year in the Spring of 2016. I have coded interviews as a paid communication research assistant in the Fall of 2015 in addition to conducting field research on an international nonprofit organization, Direct Relief, in the Spring of 2015. I am planning to graduate a semester early in December of this year.

I take great pride in myself for financially funding all four years of my college education. I am currently working as the Information Management Officer for the Carson City Library as well as the Media & Marketing Assistant for a real estate team: Susan Burns Associates. My past experience includes working as a paid Public Service Intern in the Public Information & Publications division of the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) last summer of 2015. During my time there, I aided in the development of a communications campaign, assisted the design of a new logo and marketing strategy, and personally initiated the created of an Instagram account for the department. Before working at NDOT, I gained experience in the retail, food, and event-hosting industry as a Sales Associate at Payless Shoesource (2012-2014), a Food Expediter and Hostess at Enterprise Fish Company (2014-2015), and the Merchandise Coordinator and Box Office Liaison at The Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival (2014/2015/2016).

This May, I came home to Nevada after studying abroad in Paris, France at The American University of Paris. The four months spent in Paris offered incredible exposure to a global world as I studied French, traveled outside France to Italy and the United Kingdom, and built connections all over the world. I also had the unique opportunity to write for the University's website, Peacock Plume, as an Online News Journalist. My friend and I enjoyed this so much that we established our own website upon returning to the United States called www.WestSociety.com. Our vision is to create a space for twenty-somethings to have a voice in their world.
