Shaheim Dennis

My name is Shaheim Dennis and I am 21 years young. I was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois in an area Sociologist Ernest Burgess would describe as a “transition zone.” Here, I defeated extreme odds against crime, gangs, drugs and poverty, and managed to graduate from Proviso Math and Science Academy in Forest Park, Illinois. Immediately thereafter, I attended Triton College in River Grove, Illinois where I obtained an Associate of Arts with a major in Criminal Justice Administration. Currently, I attend Arizona State University (ASU) pursuing my bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and Criminology. In addition to my full time academic career, I am also employed full time, where I demonstrate a very strong work ethic. For the past two years I have served on the board of a local community performing arts venue whose goal is to provide positive diversions for inner city youth, in an effort to reduce juvenile delinquency. I intend to serve as a leader and a positive example for these youth. I am determined to continue to use my education as a tool to remain an exemplary American and productive member of society.delinquency.
