Saran Kante

My name is Saran Kante, I am 22 years old. I am originally from Guinea West Africa, I came to the U.S. five years ago with my siblings. I have dreamed of becoming a doctor as long as I can remember; this commitment was inspired by two reasons. One, by the woman I am named after; a woman who helped my mother through the darkest time of her life and helped deliver me being an OB-GYN doctor herself. despite being fortunate, she stayed in a small town and had an impact on so many lives. The second reason is based on the personal struggles I have endured in my short life. I am battling a life-changing illness which is Sickle Cell Amenia. In spite of these obstacles, I continue to rise as a student leader and civic servant at any given chance. I want to become a doctor to make the lives of people like me better and free from pain. I want to be in the team that will find treatments and cures to diseases such as Sickle Cell and Cancer etc.. Transitioning to a whole new continent and starting education few grades down can challenging and discouraging for some people; however, I choose to dream about the light at the end of the tunnel no matter the struggles I might be facing right now.
