About
My name is Jane Makori. I am a rising sophomore at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. I am currently in the dual degree program at the university in hopes of achieving my masters and bachelors in the fields of social work and sociology. After graduation, I would like to become a licensed social worker and obtain a law degree. I have a strong desire to help others in an immense way and strongly believe being a social worker is how I am suppose to do so. I want to better the lives of my surrounding community by helping mothers and their children whose lives are affected by poverty, domestic abuse, and drug abuse. Also, I want to help adolescents who have deterred from the right path by helping juvenile delinquents. I chose this as my focus because I believe in order to help our society as a whole, we have to start from home. What I learned in one of my sociology classes is that our family is one of the very first social structures that shape who we are and the paths we take. I believe in order to help our community, we must start from home and we must start with the young ones.
