Goals and interests
- Career goal
I am a choral education major and I plan on becoming a high school choir director. However I would be happy teaching any grade, as long as I am able to positively influence kids, and help them learn and appreciate music then I will be happy.
- Graduate school interests
I am considering getting a masters degree in music education, theory, history or conducting. As I am only a freshman, I am considering adding a second major and/or minor in one of these areas.
- Outside the classroom
Some of my hobbies include music, fitness, helping others, camping, traveling, and learning new things.
I have been involved in music groups and ensembles since I was in third grade. In elementary school and junior high I was involved in choir, band where I played the french horn, and the school musicals. In high school I continued with choir and school musicals, I sang in the madrigals group, a cappella group and performed and competed with the show choir.
I have grown to love fitness and exercising, while it has its obvious health benefits I also feel energized and happier after I work out. I was on the local park district swim team for thirteen years and my high school team for three years. Even though I did not pursue swimming in college I enjoy working out regularly and find that staying active helps me feel better and keeps my mind and body sharp.
I love helping others in big ways and small. Whether its volunteering at a homeless shelter or just helping a friend with homework, it brings me joy knowing I can help other people and positively affect their lives.
Traveling has been a big part of my life since I was a kid. My family would go on road trips over the summer for two weeks or so, and drive all over the country camping and hiking around national parks and walking around historical sites and museums. This influenced my love for nature and being outside as well as having an appreciation for history and learning new things in general. I believe my own personal interest for learning is one of the reasons why I want to become a teacher.
