About

I was born in Sacramento, California and lived in Spokane, Washington since I was 9. My parents emigrated from Russia in the early 1990s, a few years before I was born. They loved to travel and my siblings and I are fortunate to have loving parents. I grew up bilingual and loving to travel. I enjoy living in the Pacific Northwest region because I am able to enjoy all four seasons and spend time with my wife exploring the outdoors. I was involved with my local church during my teenage years and served in youth leadership. It was then that I met my wife to be. I enjoyed collaborating and working as a team, I felt like I was a part of something bigger than myself. It was then that I started to dream. I traveled internationally to South America to serve the villages there with financial assistance and helped build a local community center. Coming back to the United States I brought with me a deeper understanding of what it is like to live in a third world country and a gratefulness for the type of opportunities and services we have available to us here. I dreamed that I would come back and volunteer on medical relief missions. After I gain more experience I plan on joining an international nursing organization, go on medical missions and provide disaster and humanitarian relief to people in under-served areas. I became interested in nursing because I knew I wanted to be a part of healthcare and I felt like nursing was the most holistic and most fitting model of healthcare for me.

Goals and interests

Career goal

I found nursing to be a more suitable career for me because nursing uses a model of treating human response and addresses the individual with a holistic perspective: physiological, psychological and spiritual. Early in the conception of the idea of pursuing a career in nursing, I felt strongly that many diseases were preventable with proper education, lifestyle and with proper nutrition. Many of the top leading causes of death are arguably preventable, with exceptions, such as heart disease, cerebral vascular attacks, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and diabetes mellitus. If people were educated early on, about how they can influence their quality of life as they age and if they were more inclined to be proactive about their health instead of reactive, these diseases would not be taking lives from their loved ones. I was very passionate about community health and I believe that nursing approach serves as a superior approach to tackling these issues. There are many psychosocial dilemmas involved in changing the minds and attitudes regarding individual’s health. There needs to be more research in how to reduce the amount of preventable diseases in the population. My father suffers from diabetes mellitus. Early on, my family tried to intervene and break the cycle of poor dietary choices and a sedentary lifestyle. Growing up in the United States, we were fortunate enough to receive a quality education and learn about the risk factors that could lead to diseases. Of course, there are genomic components to diseases but we can lower our risk before the onset of the disease. I strongly advocate for preventative and proactive healthcare rather than treating the symptoms of a disease process that is too far along to reverse. Currently I am perusing my bachelor’s degree in nursing. I hope to become a critical care registered nurse and work in the ICU one day. I am considering advancing my education and possibly becoming a nurse practitioner. I grew up traveling with my family, it is something that I would like to continue doing but with a different purpose. I want to travel internationally, go on medical missions, and provide disaster and humanitarian relief to people in underserved areas. I am currently involved in leadership at my school and we hope to serve the community that houses us. I found that I have purpose in serving others and it is fulfilling to me. I want to join an international nursing/healthcare organization where I could serve people on a larger scale.
