About

My name is Jordan Dunlap, and I am currently a freshman at Blinn College in Bryan, Texas. With much hard work and dedication, I successfully completed my first semester of college with a 4.0 GPA. I plan to work just as diligently during the rest of my time at Blinn in order to achieve my goal of transferring to Texas A&M University as a marketing major. After obtaining a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing, I intend on furthering my education by attending law school. I believe that there is still work to be done in American society in regards to women, and the way they are discussed and portrayed by the media. Furthermore, with much deliberation on the issue, I concluded that a concentration in marketing would greatly assist me on practicing and protecting the law in the area of digital media and the Internet. Although the wage gap is closing, feminists such as myself still have a message to send: women are not the lesser gender; therefore, we no longer wish to be given such powerless, demeaning, and traditional roles in media platforms such as television, fashion magazines, and a prolific number of other mediums. Although there is currently no legislation around it, I aspire to use my marketing and digital media experience to push for constitutional amendments around gender equality in the media.

Goals and interests

Career goal

Once I obtain my BBA in Marketing, I intend to use my experience in advertising and sales to practice law in order to become a Digital Media and Internet Lawyer. I plan on attending law school immediately after I obtain my BBA in Marketing; however, if I don't attend law school directly after college, I would like to spend a couple years as a Transcultural Anthropologist. Although corporations might have a different title for this position, the sole purpose of a Transcultural Anthropologist is to find out why advertisements and the people in them look a certain way and say certain things, and what type of audience these messages particularly appeal to. Studying such notions is an ideal way to unfold the motives of those that produce the messages of the media, and how we can stop social minorities from being seen in a weaker light.

Graduate school interests

I plan on attending law school after college.

Outside the classroom

When I am not studying for school, I enjoy reading biographies about prominent historical figures and events, journaling, and running. I plan on joining the debate team at Blinn College in order to sharpen my skills in public speaking. In addition to reading about important historical figures and events, I enjoy listening to documentaries about them in the car. I tend to keep a log on the different facts I find from each medium of education. From how the Cold War began, to James K. Polk's election as the first "dark horse candidate," I enjoy absorbing any amount of information on experiences that I could personally benefit from learning about. I feel as if I have not only gained more knowledge of the events that our country once faced, but also, the way in which I can see myself handling scenarios that are similar to those.
