About

Growing up as a child I have wanted to be a teacher from the time I could force my younger cousin and all of our stuffed animals to sit at “school” and learn whatever I was teaching that day. I have a passion for education and physical health. While in undergrad I studied Exercise Science after I graduated I decided to further expanding my knowledge in education concentrating on Teaching Elementary Education. After graduate school I want to teach elementary physical education to help decrease the child obesity rate and I would like to start a non-profit organization to help high school students in urban neighborhoods prepare for college.
I’ve always had a passion for working with children. In high school I worked as a baby sitter, volunteered as a pop warner cheer coach and worked at two different daycares over the summers. I enjoy teaching children new things and seeing their faces light up with excitement after they’ve accomplished something. Currently working at the YMCA as an after school counselor I get to be a role model and mentor for my kids. I’ve noticed how they look up to me and feel comfortable enough to tell me their problems.
Working at the YMCA has definitely encouraged me to further my education in teaching. As a teacher I plan to make learning fun. I know some kids aren’t always interested in what a teacher has to say. I want to create programs that will have every child engaged in the curriculum. My particular focus in physical education, not every kids is thrilled about P.E. but creating relay races and other fun games will take their mind off of learning and just wanting to have fun.
