About

Hello! My name is Kyla Novotny and I am a third year undergraduate student attending California Polytechnic State University. I currently am majoring in Liberal Studies and concentrating in Child Development. Since I was young I have known teaching was the career I wanted to pursue and am extremely happy to state that my desire to teach has not faded throughout the years. Last fall, I got the extraordinary opportunity to study abroad in Reggio Emilia, Italy and got a first hand look at their world known "Reggio Approach" teaching style. I have chosen to teach not only to educate the future leaders of our world but to actively impact lives of children every single day. Helping others out has always been a priority of mine- whether it be through community service events, being a good friend, or helping others when they fall. Due to this, I have always known I would not feel fulfilled in a career unless I was giving back to the world in some way, shape or form. As a future teacher of America, I aspire to positively impact not only the education of my students but their personal growth, confidence and view of the world as well.

Outside the classroom

I love to be outdoors or active, whether that be hiking, surfing, wake boarding, snowboarding or reading a book on the beach, the fresh air and being active always soothes my soul. I also love to travel; studying abroad in Italy and getting to fly to new countries every other weekend definitely enhanced the "itch" I have to experience different parts of the world. I also enjoy giving back to the community. Prior to leaving SLO due to the Coronavirus, I had volunteered to begin helping at Cal Poly's Cat program twice a week but since I am now back home, I am not able to do this. However, once I go back in the fall, I definitely plan on volunteering at the Cat Program during my last year at Cal Poly.
