Jeremiah Williams

My name is Jeremiah Williams. I am an undergraduate music student at the University of Southern Mississippi. My main instrument is voice and my secondary instrument is Piano. I’m studying in hopes to create more opportunities for my Guyanese people. In my country those in the arts are often underpaid for their work. There are also very little events to showcase classical talent. I want to create more job opportunities and study opportunities. There is much raw talent, but not many are provided the opportunities to study. So most times you will hear about someone who used to draw or used to sing as a youth.
I want to set up a program that would allow proper training and coaching for Guyanese. So as to increase their chances of gaining scholarships to the best schools. It was very difficult for me to study because no one really knew what I needed to do. I too did not know. Parents are uninformed about what opportunities can be afforded their young musicians. I want my program to inform young people about what to do and how to get from point A to B. Personally I never had this counsel because no one in reach knew what to do. I desire to change this vicious cycle and to use my experience, and research for the benefit of my country.
