About

In the last decade of my life, I have tried to keeping my priorities straight and prepare for my future. My dream has always been to own a business; when I was 13 years old, I turned my parent’s kitchen into my own business by learning how to cook many different things, creating my own menu, and charging my customers (my family) a nickel for each item. I have always been very frugal with my money and learned to save. I got my first job at 11 years old as a soccer referee for kids’ soccer. I used the money I made carefully, and also set money aside and saved for my future.

Graduate school interests

I wish to continue my education at Texas Tech University.

Outside the classroom

I am a life-long long-distance runner, and finished my first 5K race at the age of 7. I was a Varsity member of the Hendrickson High School Cross-Country team all four years in high school, and served in a leadership role coaching the incoming freshmen. In my senior year, I was awarded the “Hawk Award”, which an annual award presented to the most dedicated runner on the team as voted by all members of the team. Also, in my senior year, I trained for and ran my first marathon at 18 years old. It was not easy, but I had always wanted to run a marathon and I intensely focused on the training and preparation. And in the end, it paid off. Likewise, I know creating a business will be very challenging, but with help from my peers and my professors I know I will have the tools to succeed.

Volunteering

  • For four summers I have gone down to the Mexican border with my church group, and either helped build a house for a family or helped coordinate a camp for low-income families, to come for free and give them a week of happiness and fun. The kids at the camp told me that this is their favorite part of the year, and that was very rewarding.
